Job Title: Staff Attorney, Veterans Project

Supervisor: CEO

Classification: Part time/ (20 hours a week)


General Summary and Objective

The Village Legal and Community Project’s Veterans Staff Attorney provides individual legal

representation and assists veterans and their families in various areas of the law. This includes

representing clients before the Department of Veterans Affairs for discharge upgrades from the

military branches. and. Clients may receive legal assistance in a wide range of other legal issues

as necessary this may include housing, sealing and expunging of records, driver’s license

reinstatement, consumer debt, and family law matters.


Major Duties

• Maintain a caseload of individual cases representing clients before the Department of Veterans

Affairs, state courts, and administrative hearings;

•Make the appropriate referrals to other legal resources when necessary;

•Help organize and operate our intake system and veterans’ clinic;

• Engage in community outreach addressing issues affecting veterans and their families;

• Maintain case files and timekeeping in electronic case management system;

• Report on outcomes and meet the requirements of funders.


Skills and Expertise

• Applicants must be licensed to practice law in the state of Illinois;

• Experience working directly with veterans, people with disabilities, people who have

experienced trauma, and people with limited income highly desired;

• Provide legal services including legal research and factual investigation, counsel and advice,

brief services and document preparation, dispute resolution and representation of clients in

administrative and judicial proceedings;

• Must willing to work in a collaborative work environment with a growing organization;

• Must possess strong interpersonal skills as well as excellent oral and written communication

skills;

• Excellent oral/written communication, research skills, and computer competency;

• Organizational and case management proficiency.

Job Title: Program Facilitator, Life Readiness and Baby B.O.S.S programs

Supervisor: CEO or Program Manager

Classification: hourly, competitive, DOE


Qualifications

Candidates must

● Have a BA or BS in education, psychology, or a related field.

● Have computer proficiency.

● Commit to a full summer or school year.

● Have the ability to engage with and develop relationships with a variety of program stakeholders from parents, institutions of higher education, community leaders, and/or school staff.

● Demonstrate poise, professionalism, and exceptional communication skills. It is critically important that instructors model timeliness and dependability in attendance throughout the program.

● Have the ability to adapt to various learning styles and respect for individual differences of students in the classroom.

● Exercise effectiveness and patience in guiding classroom activities, keeping discussions on task and thinking quickly/creatively in the face of unexpected questions or comments; must demonstrate excellent time management and organizational skills.

● Be willing to provide, accept, and implement feedback about their instruction or

classroom management approach in order to better serve the needs of our

students.

Pillars: Raise critical consciousness of black youth, understand youth in terms of

their strengths, assets and excellence, challenge racial stereotypes, and promote

healing; as instructors they must be coachable and model a growth mindset.

● Have experience with working with underserved and under resourced

populations.


Responsibilities

● Serve as the instructional leader for cohorts of students;

● Lead delivery of TVLCP Project Curriculum;

● Lead team building activities for the student cohorts;

● Review lesson plans prior to each instructional day;

● Administer technical assessments and student surveys;

● Evaluate and track quantitative and qualitative student progress;

● Serve as main liaison between students, and TVLCP;

● Serve as secondary liaison to various stakeholders, including parents, donors,

partners, etc.;

● Report to Program Manager or CEO of TVLCP;

● Participate in weekly calls with Program Manager or CEO of TVLCP;

● Model The Village culture in the classroom: See the strengths in students. Exude
